ABOUT THE AUTHORS ELIZABETH & MARK MORRIS

Elizabeth and Mark Morris first became involved in travel writing while working as editors at Moon Publications, when the original Handbook series was produced in two crowded rooms of the publisher’s Northern California office.

Mark made the transition from travel editor to writer with his first book, Odyssey Illustrated Guide to Ireland (The Guidebook Co. Ltd.). He continued to pursue his passion for coastal destinations by writing the first edition of Moon Atlantic Canada. Elizabeth took up the post of managing editor at Moon, and worked for a time in Hong Kong at Moon’s former affiliate, China Guides. Their love of the Pacific Northwest led Elizabeth and Mark to settle in Portland and begin their extensive explorations of the region. Together, they wrote the first edition of Oregon Coast Best Places (Sasquatch Books).

Elizabeth and Mark are delighted to be back exploring Oregon, now accompanied by two small but highly opinionated passengers in car seats, on a quest to discover the chunkiest bowl of chowder, the coziest bed-and-breakfast, and the most perfect beach.

They sincerely hope the search never ends.

ABOUT THE UPDATERS

Between the two of them, Bill McRae and Judy Jewell have lived in and traveled around Oregon for over 50 years. During this time, they’ve strayed out of state to research and write the Moon Handbooks to Montana, Utah, and southern Utah’s national parks (aka Zion and Bryce).

Asked to revise and update Moon Coastal Oregon, Bill admitted that he’d been dying for an excuse to go to the John Day Fossil Beds. And Judy reckoned that it was high time for her to revisit Brookings, where she’d worked for the Forest Service back in the early 1980s. The list of favorite destinations began to tumble out of their mouths: The Wallowas! Frenchglen! The Crooked River! Sign us on, they said. . . we’re ready to hit the road!

When she’s not traveling around the West, Judy works as a technical and scientific editor and a yoga teacher. Bill has written for Frommer’s, Lonely Planet, Mobil Guides and 1000 Places to See in the USA and Canada Before You Die. He has also edited books for National Geographic and provided content for websites like GORP.com and Expedia.com.
