ABOUT THE AUTHOR WAYNE BERNHARDSON
Wayne Bernhardson first visited Buenos Aires in 1981, during a military dictatorship, and he has stuck with the Argentine capital through good times and bad. Returning repeatedly to broaden and deepen his knowledge of and appreciation for both the city and the country in general, hes fit in well enough that porteños constantly stop him in the street to ask for directions. He owns an apartment near Palermo's botanical gardens, and spends 45 months every year in southern South America.
Before dedicating himself to guidebooks, Wayne earned a Ph.D. in geography at the University of California, Berkeley, but abandoned academia for a nearly perpetual Latin American road trip. This second edition of Moon Handbooks Buenos Aires is one of a long Moon Handbooks shelf that also includes Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, and Patagonia.
Wayne has contributed to magazines and newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, Trips, the American Geographical Societys Focus, National Geographic Traveler, Business Traveler, Latin Trade, and Travel Holiday. He often gives slide lectures on destinations he covers in his books.
In the course of authoring this new edition of Buenos Aires, Wayne also made his cinematic debut in director Diego Curubetos Meat on Meat, as Roman Polanskis London producer in a telephone argument with Argentine exploitation filmmaker Armando Bó (listen for Waynes Polish-exile-in-London accent before he slams the receiver on Bó!).
When not in South America, he resides in Oakland, California with his wife María Laura Massolo, their daughter Clio Bernhardson-Massolo, and their Japanese Akita Sandro (named for a contemporary Argentine pop singer). Wayne can be reached directly by email at southerncone@mac.com or through www.guidebookwriters.com.
