ABOUT THE AUTHOR CHRISTOPHER VAN BUREN

Christopher Van Buren first arrived in the historic town of Ouro Preto, Brazil, in 1998. He knew immediately that he had to stay to discover what the 18th-century cobblestone streets had to teach him. He spent the next three years there writing and painting, and even opened his own atelier. He has been living in and exploring Brazil ever since.

In researching Moon Handbooks Brazil, Chris covered over 3,000 kilometers of Brazilian coastline, gathered more than 50 pounds of research materials, and stayed in more than 100 hotels and pousadas all over the country. His most memorable experience was swimming with the dolphins off the shore of Pipa Beach near Natal—but the many sunrise and sunset walks along Brazil’s beaches have also been unforgettable.

Chris studied Fine Arts and English, and spent over 10 years in various facets of the publishing business, as a writer, editor, and even a publisher. He wrote more than 15 books in the computer and software industry along with numerous magazine articles and corporate press materials. With the advent of the Internet, Chris was able to realize his dream of traveling the world, while working from a laptop computer. He once created an entire website on a two-month trip through France and cowrote Poor Richard’s Creating E-Books on his first trip to Brazil.
