About the Author

Andrew Hempstead

Australian Andrew Hempstead might be cheering for the Aussies when it comes to cricket and rugby, but he has developed a deep appreciation for New Zealand and its people during ten trips to and around the country.

Andrew began travel writing in 1989, when, after leaving a career in advertising, he took off from Australia for Alaska, linking up with veteran travel writer Deke Castleman to help research and update the fourth edition of Moon Handbooks: Alaska-Yukon. Andrew is now the author of books on Alberta, British Columbia, the Canadian Rockies, and Vancouver. He is the co-author of Moon Handbooks: Australia and Moon Handbooks: Atlantic Canada, and has also contributed to Road Trip USA

and other guides. Andrew’s writing and photographs have appeared in Interval World, National Geographic Traveler, Travesias, and Wildlife. He has also traveled through most of the United States, Europe, the South Pacific, and India.
When not working on his books, Andrew enjoys golfing, hiking, fishing, camping, and the simple pleasures in life, such as skimming stones down on the river. He lives with his wife, Dianne, in Alberta, Canada.
