Travel writer and Michigan native Josh Bishop provides an insider’s view of the Upper Peninsula, from Mackinac Island’s horse-drawn carriages and historic Grand Hotel to the dense yet easily accessible Hiawatha National Forest. Josh includes several trip strategies that highlight the region’s unique sights, including a “Waterfall Tour” and a section devoted to “Winter Activities” like skiing and snowmobiling. Josh also structured the book to guide travelers in a loop around the peninsula, making the information more accessible and easy-to-follow. Whether it’s exploring the miles of trails on the Keweenaw Peninsula or kayaking in Isle Royale National Park, Moon Michigan’s Upper Peninsula provides all the information needed for a more personal and memorable experience.

About the Author

Josh Bishop

Josh Bishop is a proud Michigander, even if he does have the misfortune of living somewhere other than the Upper Peninsula. Fortunately, summers of family camping and the occasional hunting trip have given him a healthy appreciation for the outdoors, eventually drawing him to the great paradise a short drive north and across the Mackinac Bridge. Whether he is hiking the trails of the Porcupine Mountains or fending off a mob of tourists at a Mackinac Island fudge shop, there isn’t much about the U.P. that Josh doesn’t love.

After spending a couple of years just outside Denver, where he began travel writing, Josh realized that although the Rockies were nice enough, they were missing something: standing water. So it was back to the Upper Peninsula’s thousands of miles of shoreline, its forests, waterfalls, cities, and—his personal favorite—the Keweenaw Peninsula. There really is nothing quite like that Lake Superior sunset.

Josh has traveled extensively and published several hundred articles on destinations from San Francisco to Switzerland, from Anchorage to Chihuahua—but he keeps coming home. He currently writes full-time and lives in Holland, Michigan, with his amazing wife, Becca, and their newborn son, Jack.
