About the Author

Ana Chavier Caamaño

The Dominican Republic isn't just at the tip of Ana Chavier Caamaño's pen—it's in her blood, too. Born into a large Dominican family, Ana has been traveling to the Dominican Republic since she was one month old. Even in her childhood town of Aberdeen, South Dakota, her family's home country never felt far away; she was raised on a century's worth of stories, courtesy of her abuelos. As a result, Ana has a sense of Dominican history and culture that is both personal and rich—and she is one of only a few writers who can explore this dynamic place with both the excitement of a tourist and the insight of a Dominican national.

Ana holds an MA in English and Creative Writing from San Francisco State University, and her work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies. Ana combines her passions for travel and dance in her writing for Examiner.com.
