Guest Post: Québec City Carnaval

By Sacha Jackson

Even though I’ve lived in Québec for the better part of a decade, I don’t always have the time to fully experience what the province has to offer. Take the Carnaval de Québec, for example. I’ve seen a few ice canoe races, cheered Bonhomme (the cuddly mascot) along the parade route and marveled at the snow sculptures, but I’ve never had the opportunity to totally immerse myself in the annual celebration. So this past weekend I packed up the rental car and battled a winter storm to make the opening of the festival.

Every January for the past 58 years, Québec City has transformed itself into a winter wonderland. The Carnaval de Québec is a two-week long celebration that helps fight the mid-winter blues by partying in the outdoors. (Honest. The “eat, drink and be merry” tradition stretches back to the early days of New France, though originally it was linked to Lent.) more >>

Moonrise Over Magical Maui

Such diversity contains an astonishing array of creatures, including some 1676 species of birds, more than in all North America. Below are the top five destinations for wildlife watching.

Skiing at Lake McDonald by Becky Lomax.jpg

By Becky Lomax

Like I mentioned in my Monday guest blog post, one of the best times to visit one of the U.S. National Parks is during the winter. The crowds are lighter, the scenery is as beautiful as always, and there are typically good deals to be found on accommodations. Below you will find part 2 of my list of the top parks to visit during the winter. Enjoy!
