Reader Photo of the Day

The above photo was submitted to our Moon Flickr Group by Stephany Gerber of Linwood, New Jersey, and we think it’s great!

This eye-catching photo was taken in August 2006 while Gerber was on a last minute road trip with her husband and another couple. The four traveled to Bar Harbor, Maine and then through New Hampshire to Mount Washington to see New England in all its summertime glory.

We like it because it’s a true reflection of New England, and a perfect compliment to the New England content we recently posted to the site—which includes information on exploring the historic covered bridges in the area. more >>

Solid Deals on Last-Minute US Travel this November

Scoring a deep discount on last-minute airfare is every procrastinator's dream. But even early birds can rejoice when patience pays off—literally—in savings on their plane tickets. Orbitz just posted some great last-minute fare reductions on cross-country air travel, now through December 7th. In addition to flights from New York City and San Francisco, look for reduced fares from Los Angeles and Boston, too. more >>

Order a café au lait "to go" in France and it will be given to you in an 8 oz. plastic cup.

Order a large, non-fat, extra hot, sugar-free mocha with two added shots of espresso and no foam in most European cafés and you'll get a death stare. more >>

"Pulling a Hemingway": The Idea of Living Abroad

By Sam Lugtu

“If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a moveable feast.”
– Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast

During my final semester at Cal, I remember sitting in class and looking at various flyers tacked onto the wall, one of which stood out in all its neon pink glory and boldfaced text that read: “SEMESTER AT SEA.” Like many people, I’ve always associated living abroad with studying abroad, especially since I had considered going to London for a semester. Though it never ended up happening, I still feel an itch to let my endeavors run rampant on foreign territory. more >>
