Hit the Road with Moon and Win an iPod Nano
Summer is almost here. Are you road trip ready?
All this week at Moon.com we’re featuring handy road trip itineraries and routes, as well as plenty of road-tested tips and advice from Moon’s American Nomad blogger, Laura Martone. We’re also giving one lucky reader the chance to win an 8GB iPod Nano (Retail Value $149 USD) and a Moon guidebook of their choice. To enter to win, simply comment below or on our Facebook or Twitter page and tell us what song most makes you want to hit the road.
Deadline to enter is 5pm PST on Sunday, May 1st. We’ll be picking one winner at random the week of May 2nd. The name of the winner will be announced on the Moon Staff Blog. Employees of the Perseus Books Group, the parent company of Avalon Travel & Moon, are not eligible to win.
We can’t wait to hear all your favorite road trip songs. As for me, I love “Take it Easy” by The Eagles. For me, it’s a true road trip classic.

Ramblin' Man
Posted by Jesslyn on May 1, 2011 at 12:05 pm
My Honey/Hubby says definitely "Ramblin' Man" by the Allman Brothers (he also likes "Jessica") - I'm more inclined toward "L.A. Woman" by the Doors.

Of A Revolution - Crazy Game Of Poker
Posted by Joles on April 29, 2011 at 9:04 am
This song was our anthem the first year that I rowed with the crew team at Susquehanna University. It has been a tripping staple since then and it always gets me hyped up for where I'm going!
Sabotage
Posted by gmmerrell on April 29, 2011 at 8:04 am
Sabotage by the Beastie Boys is hands-down the best driving son in the world! It pumps you up and you just have to go with it!

RUSH
Posted by jmcharries on April 28, 2011 at 5:04 pm
I have to go with 'Red Barchetta' by RUSH! It is the perfect driving song for me. It starts off slow and then gets faster and when you are out on the open road it is so cool to listen to! Great driving song!
She was an American Girl
Posted by turboterp on April 28, 2011 at 12:04 pm
When I first got my driver's license, my favorite song was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' AMERICAN GIRL. It represented freedom and excitement to me, and I sang along at the top of my lungs every time I heard it. To this day, whenever I hear the opening notes, I have the urge to grab my keys and hit the road to certain adventure. Best road trip song ever!
ZZ for no zzzzzz's

Always get up and going with La Grange by ZZ Top. Heck, I usually start off with the Greatest Hits CD whenever I'm hitting the road, so many great roadtrip songs.

Whenever I start a long road
Posted by roobacca on April 26, 2011 at 12:04 pm
Whenever I start a long road trip, I put on Highway to the Danger Zone because 1) it has a great beat, and 2) it's funny.
Knee Deep
Posted by cdtravel on April 26, 2011 at 12:04 pm
I have to go with "Knee Deep" from the Zac Brown Band. Since we live near the Gulf Coast, almost all of our road trips have had blue water as their destination. That song makes me want to get in the car and keep driving till we smell the salt air.

Road Trip Mixes=One of my faves!
Posted by stefers511 on April 26, 2011 at 10:04 am
I may not love the "driving" part of roadtrips but other perks like scenic routes, long convos in the car, and music mixes are some of my favorite things! My latest song of inspiration is called "windows are rolled down" by Amos Lee. The song just feels like a great roadtrip where you've got your arm out the window and can feel the wind through your fingers as you move towards a new horizon. Nothing like the feeling of going somewhere new. Oh I want to travel right now!

I love Sugarland's Operation: Working Vacation, Easton Corbin's Roll With It, Let's Go to Vegas by Faith Hill and lots of others. It doesn't take a whole lot to inspire me to hit the road!

Paul Simon's "Graceland" always puts me in a wistful, rambling mood. Makes me ready for some warm Spring air!
Too many to name
Posted by lmartone on April 26, 2011 at 4:04 am
Like Wayne, I'm not entering the contest, but I can't resist the question. So many songs make me feel like hitting the road - several of the ones already mentioned, like "Life Is a Highway" and "On the Road Again," plus Bob Seger's "Against the Wind" and Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild." But let's face it - being an American Nomad, it doesn't take much to entice me back to the road. :-)

Where the blacktop ends
Posted by les16j on April 25, 2011 at 5:04 pm
I adore "Where the Blacktop Ends" by Keith Urban. Reminds me of driving home to Nebraska!
In reality, it's no contest.
Posted by Wayne Bernhardson on April 25, 2011 at 5:04 pm
In reality, it's no contest. The greatest road song of all time is Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere." That said, I'm also partial to Astor Piazzola's "República Argentina," which manages to get the name of every Argentine province into a single lyric.
