Antigua Guatemala makes a great place for New Year's
Will the fireworks ever stop? That seems to have been the question on more than one traveler's mind this past week as Antigua Guatemala rang in 2010 with quite the celebration. On New Year's Eve, streets were packed with revelers of all ages. Restaurants offering special dinner packages were booked weeks in advance. The same goes for hotels. Antigua's beautiful plaza was also packed with revelers and musicians celebrating the arrival of a new year.
At midnight, as in all Guatemalan towns and cities, Antigueños and intrepid travelers lit off a cacophony of firecrackers, along with beautiful fireworks lit off from the plaza. It was quite the spectacle.
The party didn't end there, though. On New Year's Day, another fireworks show took place on the plaza at 6 p.m. A 25-meter-long row of firecrackers was also set off. If you missed it this year, you now have just shy of 12 months to plan your trip to Guatemala for one of the best New Year's celebrations in Central America.
