National Geographic Events: Discover the Soul of Cuba
Join me in Washington, D.C., for my presentation—Discovering the Soul of Cuba—in the Grosvenor Auditorium on April 13, 2012, at 7:30pm.
The event is part of the National Geographic Events ‘Live’ series.
I’ll take attendees on an illustrated tour of the island, including a vivid virtual tour of Havana’s Old City, the island’s rich nature preserves, and its fascinating blends of cultures.
I'll be joined by the Society’s Geographer, Juan José Valdes, a native of Cuba who will share his personal story as a young refugee from the island, culminating in his work on National Geographic’s highly-detailed new map of Cuba.
The event, which be aired live on the National Geographic TV Channel, will be followed by a salsa dance party (9pm; $10), with instruction provided by DC’s salsa maestra Eileen Torres, and music spun by local favorite and Cuban timba expert DJ Reyna.
Meanwhile, you can also watch me streamed live on the National Geographic Facebook page during a separate interview with moderator Andrew Howley, at 2:30-3pm on April 13.
Now that you’re ready to travel to Cuba, join me on one of National Geographic Expedition’s 10-day Cuba: Discover its Culture and People tours, for which I act as the Society’s resident expert.
