The U.S. National Park Service celebrated its 96th birthday on August 25, but as I've indicated several times over the past few years, a special day isn't really necessary for me to celebrate the wonder, beauty, and diversity of America's 398 national parks, monuments, battlefields, military parks, historical parks, historic sites, recreation areas, scenic rivers and trails, seashores, and lakeshores.
